Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer virtual nutrition counseling in California?
Yes, I offer virtual nutrition counseling throughout California. Sessions take place on Zoom and new patient forms, booking and payment happen through my HIPAA compliant patient portal, Healthie.
Are virtual dietitian appointments effective?
Yes, working with a dietitian virtually is very effective – especially when it includes live audio and video (like a zoom call).
The convenience of virtual appointments also makes it easier to meet on a regular basis, which can allow for more accountability and support.
Do I need a referral to see a dietitian in Oakland?
Per the California Business Code for dietitians, yes, a physician’s referral is required (for CA residents). I’ll ask you to share your doctor’s name with me in the intake process so I can obtain the referral for you.
How much does nutrition counseling cost in the Bay Area?
An initial session (55 minutes) is $225 and follow ups (up to 45 minutes) are $160
What happens in the first session with a dietitian?
The first session includes a thorough assessment of your medical and nutritional history. It’s a chance for me to hear your story, what’s worked, what hasn’t and what changes you’re hoping to see. After the assessment we work together to make an action plan with some concrete steps you can take right away. And we finish by making a plan for following up.
How long are nutrition counseling sessions?
The initial session is 55 minutes and follow ups are up to 45 minutes.

While I am physically located in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area, my practice is currently 100% virtual, with all sessions done via Telehealth.

What is a registered dietitian nutritionist?
Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (also know as Registered Dietitians) are experts in the field of food and nutrition. RDNs have completed specified academic course work, completed a period of supervised practice, passed a national registration examination, and complete ongoing continuing education. RDN is a regulated credential, available only to those who follow this process.
The term “nutritionist” alone is not a regulated credential and does not guarantee that the person using the term is a qualified nutrition professional.
